TERRAIN

The Lyngen Peninsula is located in Northern Norway at a Latitude of 70 degrees north, far above the Arctic Circle. The area is just North of the town of Tromso, the largest city in Northern Norway. The Lyngen peninsula is literally crowded with peaks and glaciers, with the mountains rising directly our of the fjords to heights of 6,000 feet. The area is referred to as the Lyngen Alps.

The snowboarding is truly fantastic. There are no lifts up here, so snowboarders need to hike up with snowshoes or a splitboard but it is definitely worth it! We can arrange rentals for those who don`t have these.

Due to the warm ocean currents, the fjords are ice-free all year. The Atlantic Ocean gives Lyngen very maritime weather, so it is surprisingly mild. Most of the mountain temperatures range in the teens to low twenties with ample amounts of sunshine. The Golf Stream brings plenty of precipitation year-round, making Lyngen one of the very few places in the Nordic countries where lots of snow can be found. During March and April, which is when our trip will take place, the area`s location allows from about 10+ hours of light.
