ITINERARY

DAY 1:
Welcome to the secluded beaches, dense jungles, and smoking volcanoes of magnificent El Salvador! Our action sports trip begins with a scenic journey from Comalapa International Airport to our beach front accommodation - an attractive hotel set right on the edge of a long, white-sand beginner beach. There will be time for a sunset surf session, or you can opt to kick back in the swimming pool and enjoy the magnificent ocean views. Tonight we’ll have our first taste of Salvadorian food at a restaurant on the beach.

DAY 2:
An excellent beginner break is just meters from our hotel door and the chances are we'll have the beach all to ourselves on week days. After a hearty Salvadorian breakfast we'll head to the beach for our first surf session. Beginners will start with a lesson on the beach that covers basic surf technique, safety and etiquette before hitting the water to catch their first broken waves. Intermediates will head directly to the water to surf. Later in the afternoon you’ll have the chance to raise your adrenaline levels once again as we board our boat for some sunset wakeboarding (those who prefer to can head back to the beach for surfing). Whether you’re totally new to wakeboarding or a relative expert, our instructor will be available to give you tips and advice. Tonight we’ll enjoy a well-earned dinner of pupusas (El Salvador’s most typical food) or fresh fish at a local restaurant.

Day 3
This morning we’ll head back to the beach to continue your surf instruction. After an hour or two in the water you’ll be ready for a rest, followed by lunch. After lunch you’ll have the choice to either practice your wakeboarding skills or to hit the waves again to develop your surfing. We’ll have dinner at one of the local restaurants on the beach.

Day 4
After another morning surf session we’ll pack up our bags and head to our next destination: the colorful town of Tacuba. Located in a small mountain resort in Apaneca, Tacuba is a small, lively and traditional mountain town where you will be welcomed with open arms by the local people. After a bumpy but beautiful drive to Tacuba, we’ll check into our cozy hotel, a large home that we will share with its owners, a local Tacuban family. Here we’ll eat a hearty lunch with our friendly hosts and then spend the afternoon exploring Tacuba’s folkloric atmosphere. Tacuba and the surrounding tropical forest are one of the true gems of El Salvador and offer an unparalleled opportunity to experience the country’s lively culture. After an afternoon of exploring we’ll head back to our accommodation for a home-made dinner with our hosts (vegetarian cuisine can be prepared upon request). Before bed, you can relax in the hammocks and play guitar with the house’s proud owner who has many incredible stories to share.

Day 5
After our typical Salvadorian breakfast we’ll head into the jungle to begin the mountain biking section of our action sports journey. Our Access Trips guide is a former competitive mountain biker so regardless of your mountain biking experience, he’ll provide you with the tips and skills you need to maximize your mountain biking performance. Our morning ride will take us through the spectacular hills and tropical forest of El Imposible National Park; following rarely-used trails we’ll pass through jungle, coffee plantations and forests of bamboo. The 3800-hectare national park was established in March, 1989, and is recognized as a gem of biodiversity and culture. After an exhilarating ride we’ll break for lunch before returning “home” for a well earned siesta. In the afternoon we've got a date with thousands of parakeets! We’ll head to a local Ceiba tree that has earned the name “Parakeet Tree” due to the fact that every afternoon thousands of parrots descend to roost on its branches. Tonight we’ll get the chance to taste a little more of the local cuisine as we enjoy a typical dinner at the main plaza.

Day 6
Today our morning mountain bike session will take you along unforgettable scenic trails in the National Park; truly an off-the-beaten-track experience! You will learn and develop new riding techniques and skills that will help you maximize your enjoyment and master the trails. We’ll have lunch overlooking magnificent mountain views before returning to Tacuba. In the afternoon, those who are interested can join your trip leader for an exclusive falconry tour which will allow you to experience the world of birds of prey in a way you never imagined! Tonight we’ll meet for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant in Tacuba.

Day 7
Our Salvadoran action sports adventure is over! We’ll drop you off at San Salvador’s Comalapa Airport for your journey home.

Please note: This itinerary is designed to give you an idea of what to expect during our trip but it is not set in stone. What we actually do on a given day is flexible and can be tailored to weather conditions and the interests of the group.
